DESIGNATING APRII, 17-21, 1995 AS SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK
WHEREAS, the City of Brookings is located in an area of the United States significantly
affected by devastating storms, such as tornadoes, lightning and flash floods; and,
WHEREAS, it is recognized that, where appropriate actions are taken to educate and
inform residents of the city, fewer persons are injured or killed because of such storms; and
WHEREAS, the National Weather Service of the US Department of Commerce, and the
South Dakota Division of Emergency Management have joined together in sponsoring Severe
Weather Awareness Week; and,
WHEREAS, the State of South Dakota and Brookings County have proclaimed or
resolved to recognize this event:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the governing board of commissioners
declares that the week of April 17 through 21, 1995 as
SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK
in the City of Brookings and urges the cooperation of the above agencies, together with the news
media, in a concentrated effort to inform our citizens concerning proper actions to take when
severe conditions prevail.
