A RESOLUTION DIRECTING A STUDY OF FUTURE ANNEXATIONS FOR THE
CITY OF BROOKINGS
WHEREAS, the City and County of Brookings have adopted a Future Land Use Map and
a set of Objectives and Policy Guidelines for the City Limits and Joint Jurisdictional Areas,
AND WHEREAS, a future City Limits boundary and guidelines for annexation are
contained in these documents;
AND WHEREAS, further information is needed as to the economic and social impact of
future annexations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Engineer together with the ad
hoc committee be directed to conduct a study of the criteria set forth in SDCL 9-4-4.1 and 9-4-
4.2 and the economic and social impact and benefits of future annexations to the City of
Brookings, to include retaining such outside professional assistance as is deemed necessary.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that an ad hoc committee be formed consisting of a
member from each of the following:
City Commission
County Commission
City Planning Commission
County Planning Commission
Brookings Municipal Utilities
Brookings City Engineer
Representative designated by the School Board
This committee shall advise the City Commission through the City Engineer on:
1. The scope of the study.
2. The method of conducting the study.
3. Methods of receiving public input.
4. Results of the study.
