HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 80-1995 � x ; � , ., RESOLITTION NO. 80-95 ESTABLISHING GUIDELINES FOR EMPLOYEE RECOG1vITION AWARDS WHEREAS, the Employee Recognition and Appreciation Committee, after much input and discussion between employees and department heads, is recommending a system for future employee recognition awards. This system is designed to recognize employees at increasing levels based on years of service to the City of Brookings. The years of service honored will be based on 5 year intervals according to the year of the appreciation recognition (EX: the 1995 event honors a11 employees hired in the years of 1990, 1985, 1980, etc., regardless of the month hired; 1996 honors 1991, 1986, 1981, etc.) and; WI�REAS, the employee input we have received indicates that employees appreciated the choice of a plaque or Brookings Bucks according to the years of service. The five (5) year award value is based on the average cost of a plaque presented in 1992. The subsequent five (5) year awards are increased at a level the committee feels is comparable with years of service. The Employee Recognition Committee presented, and the City Commission informally agreed to the following: 5 years of service $ 15.00 10 years of service $ 25.00 15 years of service $ 3 5.00 20 years of service $ 50.00 25 yeaxs of service $ 75.00 30 years of service (and over) $150.00 Any employee that terminates their employment with the City and is re-hired at a later date, is awarded for the most recent hire date and; WHEREAS, any employee that is retiring should be included in the appreciation events and recognized verbally for the number of years of service by the Employee Appreciation Committee. The employee's retirement recognition is given by the department at the time of actual retirement. No plaque or money is given by the Employee Appreciation Committee even if the retiree's 5 year consecutive anniversary falls within that year unless the employee is cunently and continuously employed by the City at the time of the recognition event and; WHEREAS, part-time employees classified as"permanent" will be recognized the same as full-time employees. Part-time employees who work year around, are paid 12 months of the year, and are not classified as permanent should be included in recognition events. They should be recognized verbally for number of years service. They do not receive a plaque or Brookings Bucks. If an employee is part-time turn full-time, they will receive their award for number of years full-time only and; . < WI�REAS, Volunteer Fire Fighters and Police Reserves should be recognized the same as full time paid employees for number of years of service. This should be paid by the Employee Appreciation Committee. Retirement for the volunteers should,be handled by the head of his/her department at actual time of retirement but they should be included in the appreciation events and recognized verbally. BE IT RESOLVED that the Brookings City Commission hereby approves the above guidelines.
