HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 83-1995 RESOLUTION NO. 83-95 ESTABLISHING GUIDELINES FOR EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT RECOGNITION FULL-TIIvIE EMPLOYEES: WHEREAS,the City of Brookings wishes to recognize those individuals who devote all or a large part of their ��orking carcer to tl�e service of the citizens of Brookings. Therefore, it is appropriate that those individuals who are retiring from service sl�ould receive a gift of maie}�, the total of whieh would be calculated using the following faetors which are based on years of service. - 1 - 10 years of service $10.0U per year 1 I - 20 years of service $15.00 per year 21 and thereafter $20.00 per year All employees who are eligible to begin receiving South Dakota Retirement System benefits at the time they leave employrnent with the City of Brookings will be awarded a retirement gift of money. As an example: • an eligible employee who retired�vith 10 years of service would receive $100.00($10 x 10 years). • an eligible employee�vho retired�vitl. 1G}�ears of service would receive $190.00 (S10 x 10 years+�15 x 6 years) � an eligible employee who retired�vith 30 years of sen�ice���ould receive $45U.00($10 x 10 years+�15 z 10�•ears+�20 x 10 years) The decision of what kind of retirenient functio�►should be held for a retiring employee, be it within the department or a city-wide function, wiil be decided by the he�.` ��f the department in«�hich the employee worked. This policy only applies to full-time er.�plo�ees who are eligible for SDRS retircment benefits at the time of retirement and; PUBLIC SAFETY VOLUNTEERS: WHEREAS,the City of Brookings wishes to recognize those individuals«�ho donate their time in the service of the safety of the citizens of thc City of Brookings. Therefore it is appropriate that tliose individuals who are leaving service should receive a gift of money, the tota' of�vhich«•ould be calculated using the following factors which are based on years of service. 10 years of service and thereafter $10.00 i,er year for each year o��er 10 Only Volunteer Firemen and Police Reserve Officers«�ith over ten}�ears of service will be eligible to receive the gift of mone��. As an example: • an eligible volunteer�vith 12 years of service���ould receive$20.00($10 x 2) • an eligible��olunteer with 20 years of service���ould receive$100.00($10 x 10) • an eligible volunteer with 30 years of service�vould receive$200.00($10�20) Retirement of Public Safety Volunteers will be recognized at a City Comnussion meeting and will be presentcci by the Public Safety Corrunissioner and the department head. BE IT RESOLVED that the Brookings City Commission hereby appr�,�ves the above guidelines.
