On the agenda is a resolution authorizmg the Mayor to sign a purchase agreement for part of the Revell farm that will take piace after Mills exercises their option to buy the entire 320 acre tract. The terms are simple. The 131 acres the city gets will average $629/acre. Some of the land along . Medary Avenue is being donated to the City by Mills Development Corporation, and the rest is being purchased by the City. The primary reason for this purchase is to provide for stormwater management. A portion of the purchased land can be developed into a neighborhood park when residential development occurs. Terms also include • Title insurance will be split 50/50. • All platting will be done by Mills. • We pay all but $25,000 from drainage fees. • The last $25,000 will be budgeted for by the Parks Department in 1997, payable in January, 1997. • Mills will request annexation of all 320 acres immediately upon taking possession . This looks like a good opportunity to provide for the future growth of the city, to enhance and protect storm drainage, and to provide green space for a "future" Brookings. Allyn Frerichs has also negotiated an option with Dean Christie for 58 acres just south of the Revell farm. This will cost $525/acre. This land, in combination with the Revell Farm, will be very valuable in the future for storm water management and wetlands mitigation. The future growth of the City will necessitate City ownership of these properties so that a storm water management plan can be successfully implemented in this area of the Brookings watershed.
