RESOLUTION NO. 13-97
APPROVING THE SDSU WELLNESS CENTER PROJECT AND TI� SDSU PERFORMING
ARTS FACILITY PROJECT
WHEREAS, SDSU has heretofore made plans for the construction and establishment of a
new Performing Arts Center, said facility to be located to the northeast of the HPER Center and
north of McCrory Gardens in the City of Brookings, and
WHEREAS, the City of Brookings intends to enter into a Joint Use Agreement with
SDSU and the State of South Dakota for the use of said Performing Arts Center, and
WHEREAS, SDSU has also planned the construction of a new Wellness Center to be
located on the east side of Coughlin Alumni Stadium on the SDSU campus in the City of
Brookings, and
WHEREAS, the City of Brookings intends to enter into a Joint Use Agreement with
SDSU for the construction and use of said facility, and
WHEREAS, the City of Brookings has heretofore by resolution No. 115-96 expressed its
intention to dedicate revenues from increased sales t�rate as provided in Ordinance No. 25-96 �
to said projects as follows, to-wit:
For the SDSU Wellness Center $500,000.00; for the SDSU Performing Arts Facility
$6,000,000.00,
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the City of Brookings and the Brookings
Community to support the construction and development of the Performing Arts Center and the
new Wellness Center, no therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Brookings shall participate in the Performing Arts
Facility Project with SDSU; sha11 enter into a Joint Use Agreement with SDSU pertaining to same
and shall contribute $6,000,000.00 from revenues derived from the additional penny sales t�
towards the development and construction of said project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Brookings sha11 participate in the
Wellness Center Project with SDSU; shall enter into a Joint Use Agreement with SDSU
pertaining to same and shall contribute $500,000.00 from revenues derived from the additional
penny sales tax towards the development and construction of said project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor shall be authorized to enter into
appropriate Joint Use Agreements with the appropriate representatives of South Dakota State
University for the construction and joint use of said facilities.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this approval is conditioned upon South Dakota
State University raising a11 necessary funds to meet their commitment for the foregoing projects
and that no monies shall be paid to SDSU for said projects until the respected projects are totally
funded.
