HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 34-1998 RESOLUTION NO. 34-98 RESOLUTION REQUESTING BROOKINGS COUNTY COMMISSION TO ADOPT PROVISIONS OF SDCL 10-6-67 PERTAINING TO A FORMULA FOR PLATTED BUT UNDEVELOPED LOTS WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Brookings City Commission that a shortage of buildable lots exists in the City and WHEREAS, one reason for the shortage may be the reluctance of developers to place platted lots on the tax rolls because of valuation and tax concerns and WHEREAS, the platting of multiple lots in a plat would be advantageous for the orderly growth of the City of Brookings NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Brookings County Commission be requested to use the power granted in SDCL 10-6-67 to adopt a formula to encourage the platting of lots for development purposes. Said formula might include the following conditions: 1. Property must be real property,platted after the effective date of this resolution and zoned for residential construction. 2. Property must be owned by the person or corporation developing the real property. 3. Property to be classified for this purpose must contain a minimum of eight(8) lots in the plat. And said formula may be adopted in the following form: For the first five years following the filing of the plat for the subdivision, the assessed value of the lots that remain unsold or have no building construction started on them shall be the same assessed value of the property which existed in the year preceding the filing of the plat for the subdivision. Thereafter, such property shall be assessed at full and true value as all other property for tax purposes.
