WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Brookings voted on June 1, 1999 to amend the
Brookings City Charter as adopted March 18, 1997 and
WHEREAS, the amendment included eliminating the commissioner form of government
and provided for the creation of a City Council-City Manager form of government and
WHEREAS, Section 9-OS —a-first election of the amended charter states that"The
present City Commission shall prepare and adopt temporary regulations applicable only to the first
election under this amended Charter" and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the period for qualified citizens to obtain
and file petitions to run for either a council person or mayor shall commence on June 14, 1999
and the deadline to file will be 5:00 PM on July 9, 1999 and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the official date for the special election to elect the
new council members and mayor shall be Tuesday, August 3, 1999.
