HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 10-2001 RESOLUTION NO. 10-01 A RESOLUTION OF THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF BROOKINGS, SOUTH DAKOTA, DECLARING AN OFFICIAL INTENT TO USE A PORTION OF THE 75% OF THE REVENUES FROM THE 1% OF MUNICIPAL SALES TAX AND SERVICE AND USE TAX TO SUPPLEMENT THOSE FUNDS ALREADY APPROVED FOR CONSTRUCTION OF A DOUBLE ICE RINK AND AN ANIMAL HOLDING BARN FACILITY ADJACENT TO THE EXISTING MULTIPLEX EXHIBITION AND EVENTS CENTER WHEREAS, the City of Brookings has plans to construct a multi-use facility consisting of a double ice rink and animal holding barn facility adjacent to the e�usting MultiPlex Exhibition and Event Center, and WHEREAS, the estimated cost of said facility was $5.3 million, and WHEREAS, the City has heretofore, by Resolution No. 6-00, approved the allocation of funds as outlined below, and $3.2 million from the second penny sales tax(with the use of bonds); $900,000 from private sources; $100,000 from the City Parks budget; $740,000 from the MultiPlex Construction budget; and $360,000 from non(75%) second penny sales tax sources; and WHEREAS, new estimates of costs and revenues indicate that there is a need for an additional $1,036,000 to meet the needs of the project; and WHEREAS, the Brookings Ice Skating Association(BISA) has committed to an additional $39,000 for the construction of a concession stand and $110,000 for the dasher boards; and now therefore BE IT RESOLVED by the governing body of the City of Brookings, South Dakota, as follows: That the City hereby declares its ofl'icial intent to use a portion(up to $687,000) of the 75% of the revenues from the 1% sales tax as provided in Resolution No. 25-96 (as amended) and up to $200,000 of general fund contingency to supplement previously approved funding as provided in Resolution 6-00 for the construction of a multi-purpose double ice rink and holding barn facility to be located adjacent to the existing MultiPlex Exhibition and Events Center.
