HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 17-1984 - Not Approved ORDINANCE NO. 17-84 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR LICENSING RENTED OR LEASED LIVING UNITS IN THE CITY OF BROOKINGS. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY of the City of Brookings : 1. Property License. No landlord or person shall engage in the business of renting or leasing houses, apartments, or rooms to any person in the City of Brookings without first obtaining a license for each individual property. 2. Licensing Procedures. Applications for license shall be submitted to the City Housing Officer within sixty (60) days following the effective date of this Ordinance. The City Commission shall establish rules, regulations and procedures for licensing rental nroperty, which rules, regulations and procedures shall include provisions for the duration of said licenses, fees, application process, requirements for maintenance of license and procedures pertaining to revokation of licenses , which rules, regu- lations and procedures shall become effective upon approval by said City Commission. 3 . Violations and Penalties . Violations of City Ordinances or rules, regulations and procedures adopted and approved by the City Commission by licensees shall constitute cause for revokation of license according to rules, regulations and procedures established by said Housing Officer and approved by the City Commission. Each day a violation continues shall constitute a separate violation of this Ordinance. A person in violation of this Ordinance shall be subject to a fine not exceeding $100 . 00 for each viola- tion. In addition, the City may exercise such other judicial relief as it may deem necessary in order to terminate a continuing violation of this Ordinance.
