AN ORUINANCE AMENDING ARTiCLES II AND ITi OF CHAPTER THIRTBEN
( 13) OF THE REV�SET? ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BROQKINGS AND PERTAINING
TO EGECTRICITY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNZNG BODY OF THE CITY OF HROOKINGS,
SOU'fiH DAKOTA, AS FOLLOWS, TO-WIT:

Sec. I3-I6. Adopted.
�'here is hereby adopted by the city for the purpose of prescrib-
ing regulations governing the conditions and hazards arising from the
use of el�ctricity for Iight, heat, power and other purposes, tha�
certain code known as the 1984 National Electric Code, standard of the
National Board of Fire Underwriters for electrical wiring and appar�-
�us, as recommen�ed by the National Fise Protection Association, and
the whole thereof, save and except such portions as are hereinafter
de2eted, modified or amended, is filed in the office of the finance
officer, and the same is hereby adopted and incvrporated as fully as
if set forth at length herein, within the limits vf the c�ty.
Sec. 13-17. Conflicts.
In the ev�nt af any confiict between the provisions of the code
8dopted by this articl� and applicable provisions ot this Cqde of
Ordinances, state I,aw ar city ordinance, rule ox regulation, the
provisions qf this Code of Ordinances, state Iaw or city ordinance,
rule or regulation shall prevail and be controlling.
Sec. 13-18. Definitions.
Wherever the word "mun�.cipality" is used in the National Electri�
ca� Code it shall he held to mean the City of Brookings.
Sec. 13-I9. IInauthorised conaections.
�io person sha1.1 make connection from a sugply of electricitg to
any new electrical in�tallation, any electrical installation whi�h has
been ordered disconnected, or any electrical installation where the
service entrance or service equa.pment has been disConne�ted, moved or
otherwise altered, until authorized by the electrical inspector,
e$cept in an emergenCy to safeguard Iife ar property, when such
connecti.on is made in a safe manner by a persqn qualified under this
chapte�, who shall be responsible for the work and shall notify the
electrical in�pector, as soon as possible, and pay any requi�ed fee.
The electrical inspector for purposes of this Chapter, shall mean the
State El�ctrical Inapec�or.

RRTICL$ III. LICENSB
Sec. 13-13. Required.
It sha1.I be unlawful �or any person to engage in the business of
instal],ing any electrical wiring or construct or install electrical
apparatus or machinery, in any structure or upon any prearises without
first obtaining a license to do so from the city.
Sec. I3-3I. Chapter 22 applicable.
The pravisions of Chapter ZZ, insofar as the same may be applica-
ble and not in conflict, shall apply to and govern the issuance of any
license undex the provisians af this article.
Sec. I3-32. State license required.
Axiy person wishing to obtain a Iicense under this articl.e shall
exhibit at the time he applies therefor a valid license from the sate,
obtained under state iaw.
Sec. ],3-33. Approval of com�ission.
If the city commission shall be satisfi.ed that the appiicant for
a license under the provisions of this article has a state license, in
force, and has paid the sequisite fee, it shall direct that an elec-
trician's iicense be issued to such person as provided by this arti-
cle.
Sec. I3-34. Manner of issuance.
Licenses issued under the provisions of this articl.e shail be
iasued in the name of the individual or �he firm so Iiqensed.
Sec. 13-35. Displsy.
Every license issued under the provisions of this art�cle shall
be posted in a conspicuous place in the place of business of th�e
licensee.
Sec. I3-36. Nontransfe�able.
No Iicense issued under the provisions of this article shall be
trans�erable.
8ec. I3-37. Renewal.
Any licenge issued urader the provisa.ons of �his axticle may be
renewed annual.ly by the payment to the city finance officer of the
appropriate Iicense fee on file with the city finance of£icer on or
before fihe first day pf January of each year, provided that such
applicant has in force a val.id state lieense.
