Buboltz MS, CRC, NCC District Supervisor What is Vocational Rehabilitation? The state agency identified to assist individuals with disabilities to become employees in the South Dakota competitive workforce. Vocational Rehabilitation is a program that provides individualized vocational rehabilitation and supportive services to assist eligible individuals with disabilities to obtain and maintain employment compatible with their skills and abilities. Eligibility Process To be eligible to receive vocational rehabilitation services from the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS), you must: Be an individual with a disability, i.e. an individual who has a physical, psychiatric, developmental, or cognitive impairment which constitutes or results in a substantial impediment to employment, Be able to benefit from vocational rehabilitation services in achieving an employment outcome; and Require vocational rehabilitation services to prepare for, enter, engage in, or retain gainful employment. Ages of clients are 14 years and older Psychiatric Disabilities and Vocational Rehabilitation Most Commonly Diagnosed: Depressive Anxiety Schizophrenia Spectrum Bipolar Trauma Disruptive, Impulse Control, Conduct Personality May co-occur with a physical disability Not “visible” disabilities Psychiatric Disabilities and Vocational Rehabilitation Impact on Employment and Daily Living Change in employment or lack of employment will affect multiple aspects of life ○Relationships, school, access to services Job restrictions may be related to job pressure or the ability to work regardless of skill level or ability* Changes in symptoms or diagnosis ○Importance of access to resources and supports *Dorio, J., & Marine, S.
