ORDINANCE NO. 9-96
AN ORDINANCE REVISING THE ZOI�TING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF
BROOKINGS PERTAINING TO DEFII�TITIONS AND GENERAL REGULATIONS
BE IT ORDAINED by the governing body of the City of Brookings, South Dakota, that
Article II and VII, Chapter 50, the 1994 Revised Zoning Ordinance shall be amended, as follows,
to-wit:
I.
Section 50.02.000 DEFINITIONS
50.02.231
Garage, Private: An enclosed building or space designed or used for the storage of personal
motor vehicles and other customary household articles which are owned and used by the
occupants of the building to which it is accessory.
50.02.350
Motor i�ehicle, Personal: A self-propelled vehicle with a gross vehicle weight less than 11,000
pounds and/or seating capacity less than 16.

Parking Facility: An approved, hard-surfaced open or enclosed off-street parking area or
structure where licensed and operable motor vehicles are temporarily parked for a fee or allowed
without a fee by a public entity.

Accessory Buildings and Uses
A.
6. The total square footage of all accessory buildings on a lot used for residential purposes
in the R-lA, R-1B, R-2, RMH, R-3, R-3A and RB-4 districts shall not exceed 25
percent of the rear yard area or 1,000 square feet, whichever is less.
Exception: Lots with apartment buildings, townhouses, condominiums and similar uses.

III.
All ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
