Old Business:
Discussion on request to remove parking on the west side of Campanile Avenue
(previously named 13th Avenue) between 6th Street and 7th Street
Howard stated he drove through that street several times a nd was concerned that 13th
Avenue is dark and narrow and is crowded especially at night. Lanning stated she was
concerned that removing parking could move the problem to another street and all the
neighboring streets have parking on one side of the street. Howard stated most of the
vehicles parking there are students that do not want to pay for parking on campus and that
there was a large parking lot west of this street. Weiss stated the lot along 13th Avenue is a
commuter lot and is open to anyone after 4pm. Weiss also stated there are plenty of stalls
for parking for the students in the SDSU lots and people are just choosing the free parking.
Lanning mentioned that she received an email from Kacie Richard and she was in favor of
leaving the parking the way it is. Jorgenson agrees with Kacie. Jorgenson stated perhaps
the item should be tabled until there was more information from SDSU. Weiss stated that
their director of parking could give an update on the parking master plan. Sonnenburg
suggested removing parking from 8am-4pm. Bartley/Sonnenburg made the motion for
no parking from the hours of 8am-4pm on the west side of Campanile Avenue
between 6th Street and 7th Street. 6 members voted in favor and 2 voted against the
motion and the motion passed. The recommendation will be given to the City
Manager, and he will make the final decision on parking removal.
