May 11th, 2017
OFFICIAL MINUTES
1. Call to Order – Dr. Merritt Warren called the Board of Health meeting to order on
Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at the Brookings Regional Landfill.
Committee Members present: Dr. Merritt Warren, Robert McGrath, Paul Irwin,
Trish Matson-Buus, Robert Brotsky, Roberta Wagner, Mike Bartley and Al Patin.

Committee Members absent: Dr. Shelly Brandenburger
Others present: Todd Langland
2. Approve Agenda: (Brotshy/Matson-Buus) Motion to approve agenda.
All present voted aye. MOTION CARRIED.
3. Approval of Minutes: (Matson-Buus/McGrath) Motion to approve minutes for the
October 13, 2016 Minutes. All present voted aye. MOTION CARRIED.
4. Spring Clean-up Recap: The board reviewed the spring cleanup recap and
commented on the increase in cost and tons of material that was received for the
event in 2017.
5. Paint Exchange Recap: The board reviewed the paint exchange recap and were
surprised how the program continues to grow each year. Director Langland told the
board that the quality of good paint received that is recycled has improved greatly and
that makes the gallons recycled of reusable paint increase.
6. Budget Review: Director Langland reviewed the CIP part of the budget for the Solid
Waste Collection and the Landfill. The board was informed that the Collection, Landfill
and Street Department would be purchasing a new Vacuum truck in 2018.
The landfill CIP was reviewed and the Director went over the purchase of a new Track
Machine. The current one is seven years old and has averaged $18,000.00 per year
repair bills the last two years.
8. Other Items & Reports: Director Langland informed the member that he is working
on specs to bid a new recycling contract the current one expires in December o f 2017.
The contract is bid as a lump sum cost per month and the board would like to see it bid
on a per ton basis.
9. Next meeting date: The next meeting will be October 12, 2017
