BOARD OF TRUSTEES
November 10, 2016
MINUTES
The Board of Trustees of the Brookings Public Library met on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 5:30 p.m.
in the Historical Room of the Brookings Public Library.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Janell Hoffelt, Larry Rogers, Kyle Schaefer, Jim Rice and Deb Waltman.
OTHERS PRESENT: Ashia Gustafson, Becky McDaniel, and Cathy Enlow.
Call to Order
Larry Rogers called the meeting to order.
Approval of Agenda
Larry called for approval of the meeting agenda. Janelle Hoffelt moved to approve the meeting agenda
and Kyle Schaefer seconded. Motion carried.
Approval of Minutes
Larry called for approval of the minutes from the October 20, 2016 meeting. Kyle Schaefer moved to
approve the minutes and Deb Waltman seconded. Motion carried.
Old Business
a. UMS update: Our 90 day free trial is up at the end of the month. We have received $85 from
the 16 accounts that were sent to UMS. We have also had $33 in lost materials returned.
b. Outside book drop is going nowhere. The city felt it caused more of a problem than the very rare
small backup in traffic.
c. Strategic Plan: 1st meeting options will be the evening of December 12th. The second meeting
will be January 30th. Ashia will facilitate the meetings. Larry is going to see if he can find the
Patron Survey they have used in the past.
New Business
Approval of Bills
Deb Waltman moved to approve the September list of bills. Janelle Hoffelt seconded. Motion carried.
Other Items & Reports
Ashia reported that we have a CD that will be coming to maturity on November 27 that has a balance of
$30,638.07. She proposed we take $12000 out for Overdrive and Little Bits. Then reinvest the
remaining amount in a new CD. Kyle Schaefer motioned to take $12000 but to shop around for rates on
CD’s. Janelle Hoffelt seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Financial Reports
The board reviewed the October financial reports.
Librarian’s Report
Ashia presented her monthly report to the Board. She reported that we are hiring once again. Kylee,
one of our long term shelvers will be graduating from SDSU in December and will be leaving us. Cathy
Enlow has given the Library an official retirement date of January 13, 2017. Ashia is working with HR
and Cathy to update the job description so we can get the job posted. Ashia reported we have two in
house candidates that are both qualified for the job.
Adjournment
Janelle Hoffelt moved to adjourn the meeting. Deb Waltman seconded. The meeting adjourned at 6:26
p.m.
