HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRMinutes_2017_06_05Parks and Recreation Advisory Board June 5, 2017 (approved) A meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was held on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at Brookings City & County Government Center with the following board members present: Brittany Kleinsasser, Kristi Larsen, Jay Larsen, Steve Berseth, Erika Saunders, Doug Smith and Cole Moderegger. Others present included: Darren Hoff (Recreation Manager), Stacy Claussen (Recreation Manager), Dan Brettschneider (Parks, Recreation & Forestry Director) Al Kruse (Parks & Forestry Superintendent) and Christi Weidemann (Office Manager). 1. Call Meeting to Order. Kleinsasser called the meeting to order at 5:32 p.m. 2. Approval of Minutes. Approval of the April Park Board Meeting Minutes. Berseth made the motion to approve the meeting minutes. Motion was 2nd by Smith. All present voted yes; motion carried. 3. Additions to and Approval of Agenda. K. Larsen made the motion to approve the meeting agenda. Motion was 2nd by Berseth. All present voted yes; motion carried. 4. Introduction of new Parks & Recreation Board Member. SDSU Student Representative Cole Moderegger. 5. Staff Highlights. Brettschneider reported on staff highlights report for April and May. 6. Facility Project Update. The Hillcrest Aquatic Center had a dry ice blast this spring and was painted blue with the cost being just under $30,000. Larson Ice Center will have minor exterior and interior door maintenance upgrades and painting in the locker rooms. Stockwell Engineering visited EdgeBrook Golf Course and had their one-year walk through and the drainage project is functioning as intended. The First Tee program has started and it seems to be going well. A new launch dock for kayaks, canoes and paddleboards was installed at the Dakota Nature Park and has received great reviews. The Mountain Bike Association has been working at the Pump Park to repair ruts and other minor issues. The single-track mountain bike course is scheduled to be constructed sometime in July; weather permitting Pioneer Park substation work will begin after the Summer Arts Festival, in mid-August. Two Pickleball courts have been lined on the tennis court at Arrowhead Park. 7. City Comprehensive Plan Stakeholder Group Meeting. All board members have been invited to the City Comprehensive Plan Stakeholder Group Meeting on Tuesday, July 11th at 1:30 p.m. in the Community Room. 8. Upcoming Programs and Events. A monthly “What’s Going On” flyer was sent to board members prior to the meeting for informational purposes. 9. Adjourn. Kleinsasser adjourned. Next Meeting Scheduled for Monday, August 7th at 5:30 pm at The City County Government Center, Community Room 300.
