E911 MEETING
Thursday, October 20, 2016; 8:30 a.m.
Brookings City & County Government Center, 520 3rd Street
Suite 230, Room 241
Board members present: Jeff Weldon (City Manager), Ryan Krogman (County
Commission), Patty Bacon (City Council), and Larry Jensen (County Commission).
Others present: Jeff Miller (BPD), Darrell Hartmann (Fire Dept.), Richard Haugen
(County Zoning Office), Marty Stanwick (SO), and Stacy Steffensen (Commission Dept.
Director).
Members Absent: Mark Stratton (Communications) and Bob Hill (County Zoning
Office).
Call to order: Meeting was called to order by Krogman. Jensen / Bacon moved to
approve the minutes of the July 2016 meeting. All present voted aye. Motion
approved.
Additions to the Agenda: None
Bills: Miller reviewed non-recurring bills. Weldon / Bacon moved to approve non-
recurring bills. All present voted aye. Motion approved.
Quarterly Numbers: Miller provided an overview on the quarterly numbers. Stanwick
would like to see the SO numbers as separate.
Old Business:
Update on the City of White’s Siren. Miller stated the warning system for the City of
White was tested for why it has been turning off. Unfortunately they cannot determine
the reason, and will continue to monitor the siren.
New Business: None.
Member reports:
Bacon asked if it was possible for Brookings to have a whistle free zone. Hartman
stated when all railroad / street intersections have lighted arm crossings, only then could
it be requested to the State SDDOT and Rail Road to reanalyze.
Weldon updated the committee stating the city council approved the purchase of a new
siren in 2017. This siren would be located at 26th Street South and Main Avenue South.
Next meeting: Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.
Regular quarterly meetings are held in January, April, July, and October on the
third Thursday of the month. Budget discussion is held in May.
