HomeMy WebLinkAboutLBMinutes_2016_09_08 BROOKINGS PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES September 8, 2016 MINUTES The Board of Trustees of the Brookings Public Library met on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. in the Historical Room of the Brookings Public Library MEMBERS PRESENT: Janell Hoffelt, Larry Rogers, Kyle Schaefer and Deb Waltman OTHERS PRESENT: Ashia Gustafson, Alice Hayes Call to Order Larry Rogers called the meeting to order. Approval of Agenda Larry called for approval of the meeting agenda. Kyle Schaefer moved to approve the meeting agenda as amended to include Public Comment Not on Agenda. Janell Hoffelt seconded. Motion carried. Approval of Minutes Larry called for approval of the minutes from the August 11, 2016 meeting. Janell Hoffelt moved to approve the minutes. Deb Waltman seconded. Motion carried. Old Business Book Challenge Ashia has not heard any further from the patron. Katherine Eberline will reorder the book. Fine Forgiveness Ashia reported that the Library had a fantastic Fine Forgiveness Month in August. $2,779.96 in lost items were returned. 106 items were returned. $456.00 was waived in other fines. $1,144.23 was waived by donations to the Back2School Project. There was a total of $4,381.09 in waived fees. Unique Management Services Update Ashia spoke with a UMS representative on Tuesday, September 6 to discuss procedures and tracking. We are all set up and ready to go for our 90 day trial period. There will be a 24 hour lag time between the time we report the information and the time UMS processes it. Strategic Planning Ashia has not heard back from Andy Stremmel. Mary Moeller is interested but not available until November. Larry suggested contacting Mac Harris to serve on the Strategic Planning Committee. New Business Approve August Bills Janell Hoffelt moved to approve the August list of bills. Kyle Schaefer seconded. Motion carried. Other Items and Reports Financial Reports The Board reviewed the August financial reports. Librarian’s Report Ashia presented her monthly report to the Board. Three interviews are scheduled next week for the Library Assistant positions. Ashia participated in four interviews today for the Administrative Assistant position. Monday, September 19 there will be a surplus sale at the Police Department at 5:30 p.m. The plumbers started on the Library’s HVAC project this week. Larry Rogers will be attending the SDLA conference in Watertown on September 29. The next Board meeting will be Thursday, October 20. Janell Hoffelt moved to adjourn the meeting.
