Meeting Minutes from
August 25, 2015

1. Two architect firms gave approximate prices on various components of a potential
Indoor Recreation Center. Prices were based on past and present facilities that have
similar amenities.
2. Manage the message ideas:
a. Put together a master scheduler with dates, items and responsibilities.
b. Put together a flyer with common questions and answers. How do we pay
for this? Will my taxes go up? Who will use it? How will this benefit
Brookings?
c. Keep the community informed. Possibly create a Facebook page to post
information and progress.
Highlights
City Manager, Jeff Weldon, will put together a list of the amenities and their potential
square foot prices. He will also put together a list of funding sources and look at
operating expenses.
Keep in mind the specific objectives: Determine the potential construction costs
associated with a facility and determine possible funding sources.
The potential location has yet to be determined.
Compare opportunities that would come from having a 50 meter pool to a 25 meter
pool.
3. Next meeting (September 8th) will focus on facilitating a master plan, estimating
expenses and strategizing possible payment solutions.
