Discussion of the scope, vision, and needs of the following amenities: a. Court Sports i. Tennis groups would like a tennis specific floor as other surfaces are difficult to play on. There are currently 10 outdoor tennis courts located at Hillcrest Park and they are not used to their full capacity. It is believed there would be an increased level of youth participation if there was a venue for them to play year round. From a recreational stand point 2-3 courts would suffice. From an athletic stand point 3-4 courts or more would be needed. A tennis specific floor could also be used for strider camps, mom/toddler groups, and other low impact activities. ii. Basketball/Volleyball courts are believed to be in higher demand than a tennis specific surface. This surface would also serve as a multi- purpose space for various winter activities. Four courts would be an adequate amount of space. iii. Racquetball groups (approximately 6 players) currently play at Larson’s Rec Center. Racquetball courts are a specific size room/court that can’t easily be translated. If included, the space could possibly be used for aerobics, party room or used for other programming. With the small number of participants it was decided that other needs should to be met first. b. Turf Sports i. One type of turf can accommodate soccer, football, lacrosse, indoor golf and baseball, etc. One large field can be divided into quarters, which allows four games to be played at once. Paint can be used to mark field boundaries for different sports. Drop down batting cages can be determined at a later date as there will be plenty of space available. c. Aquatics i. It was recommended to have a competitive pool and recreational pool in the same room but different bodies of water. The compet itive pool would be an 8 lane, fifty meter pool with a cooler competitive swim temperature. The recreational pool would have zero depth entry, play features and a warmer temperature adequate to recreational swimming. ii. Different options (two pools, one pool or no pools) from architects will help determine what can be afforded, if any. d. Walking/Running Track i. An 1/8th mile track with 3-4 lanes would be sufficient for the facility. It could be located around the perimeter of the building and elevated to the second floor. e. Support Services i. A centralized lobby with concessions that also serves as a gathering place, locker rooms, bathrooms, mechanical area, multipurpose room for birthday parties, senior activities and other programming. Other support services will be determined as space allows. Preliminary Decisions/Options  4 Basketball/Volleyball Courts  2-3 Tennis Specific Courts  1 Large Turf Field that can be divided into 4 smaller fields  1/8th mile track with 3-4 walking lanes  Competitive and Recreation Pool in same room but different bodies of water  Support Space: Centralized lobby with concessions, locker rooms, bathrooms, multipurpose room and a mechanical area Highlights  Possibility of 5th Street Gym to be turned into Tennis Courts  There are other variables in being able to host large events, such as, hotels, parking, ect.  Recommended that facility has portable bleachers to accommodate event seating.  Once we get segmented costs we can look into fundraising/donations. 2. Next meeting (August 11th) will focus on prioritiziing the elements and components of the facility which will help determine the footprint and location of the facility. 3. Adjourned.
