HomeMy WebLinkAboutAHTFMinutes_2016_08_11Brookings Affordable Housing Task Force August 11, 2016 Minutes A meeting of the Brookings Affordable Housing Task Force was held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Brookings City and County Government Center. Members present: Patty Bacon, Kelan Bludorn, Mary Jo Minor, Connie Bridges, and Al Heuton. City staff present: Kevin Catlin, Assistant to the City Manager, Mike Struck, Community Development Director, and Staci Bungard, City Planner. Chair Bacon called the meeting to order at 1:05 p.m. A motion was made by Minor, seconded by Bludorn to approve the agenda. All present voted yes; motion carried. A motion was made by Heuton, seconded by Bridges to approve the minutes. All present voted yes; motion carried. Next Scheduled Meeting. Tentatively Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 1:00 pm. Approval of Response to Comprehensive Master Plan Advisory Committee Question. A motion was made by Bludorn, seconded by Bridges to approve the response to the Comprehensive Master Plan Advisory Committee. The key points of the response were discussed. All present voted yes; motion carried. Discussion and Review of Objective 3 of Brookings Affordable Housing Task Force Charter. Task force focused the discussion on the list of potential affordable housing solutions generated at the July 14, 2016 meeting. The discussion focused on the following:  Addition of revenue bonds to the list of infrastructure financing tools  Increased interaction with the Brookings Housing and Redevelopment Commission  Task Force suggested adding names of Brookings Housing and Redevelopment Commission members in the minutes  Members of the Brookings Housing and Redevelopment Commission as listed on the Brookings County website include: Michael Holzhauser, Stephen Chappell, Cyndy Boesch, Angie Schmitz, and Jason Meusburger  Goal of the Task force is to look at affordable housing options and report to City Council  Smaller lots, narrower lots, and option to build vertical may help with land costs  Consider infill development/redevelopment  Task force suggested researching peer communities for other ideas  Staff will distribute a list of peer communities and designate them to task force members  Task force decided to move the next meeting to October so members could focus on completing peer community reviews A motion was made by Bridges and seconded by Bludorn to adjourn the meeting. All present voted yes; motion carried and the meeting was adjourned.
