Lanning stated the curb is yellowed for one car length and believes these are city and county employees. Webster asked how much parking was requested to be removed. Lanning suggested 20-40 feet. Damm made a suggestion adding signage stating compact vehicles only. Lanning stated the police would need to monitor for compact vehicles and she suggested removing at least 20 feet of parking and would look at this area with Marty from the Street Department and ask for his recommendation. Howard/Weiss made the motion to remove 20 feet of parking from the corner, making it 40 feet total, north side of 3rd Street and west of 6th Avenue. All present voted aye. Motion passed. New Business: Discussion on removal of parking near the Boys and Girls Club: Lanning received a call from a bus driver saying around 5:00 p.m. parking is congested around the Boys and Girls Club at Southland Lane and 12th Street South. Lanning described that currently there is no parking on the east side of Southland or the north side of 12th Street South. The Boys and Girls Club is under construction and haven’t completed their new parking lot yet, and there is also construction in their north parking lot. The committee discussed that the streets aren’t wide enough for parking on both sides. Schmieding thinks the signal light at 12th Street South and 17th Avenue is causing the congestion. Lanning is working with the engineering consultant on the signal timing. Larson stated congestion is also bad at night when there is a Boys and Girls Dance. Schmieding made a comment once the Boys and Girls Club open the teen center might take care of the problem. Lanning suggested monitoring this area until the construction is completed and she will follow up with the Boys and Girls Club director. Lanning will check into this. The next meeting will be May 8, 2014. Meeting adjourned. Submitted by: Chris Larson
