HomeMy WebLinkAboutSCACMinutes_2010_01_25Swiftel Center Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes Monday January 25, 2010 @ 4:00pm Mezzanine Conference Room Present: Rod Schaefer, Barb Telkamp, Deb Garbers, Teri Ronning, Tom Coughlin, Al Gregg, Jeff Weldon, City Manager; Tom Richter, Swiftel Center Executive Director; Scott Smith, Swiftel Center Director of Operations; Jenny Hammrich, Swiftel Center Director of Sales/Marketing; Andrea Hogie, Swiftel Center Business Manager. Agenda Discussions:  Rod called the meeting to order. Deb motioned to approve the minutes from November 23, 2009. Barb seconded. The motion passed.  Selection of officers: Rod nominated Matthew Nelson for Chairperson Tom seconded. No other nominations. The motion passed. Rod nominated Tom Coughlin for Vice Chairperson Terri seconded. No other nominations. The motion passed. Rod nominated Barb Telkamp for Secretary Terri seconded. The motion passed.  November and December financials were presented.  4th Quarter Economic Impact and review of Events, Event Day & Attendance for January to December were presented.  Tom gave an update on the building expansion. The City Council will have a public discussion about the expansion Tuesday the 26th at the 6:00pm meeting. Jeff Weldon is expecting opposition to be there. We have business men in favor of the expansion but they are reluctant to speak out. The Swiftel Center does not have a core group of support to push for the expansion. The timing would work great for rolling over the old debt to the new debt.  Jenny presented the events for February and March 2010. Some events include Bull Riding, HomeShow, GoKarts, Basketball, Jason Aldean, AAU Wrestling, Rodney Carrington, Various meetings and practices. Jenny would like feedback for new ways of advertising our events to reach more people.  Scott reported on building upgrades. Phase I of the lighting project has started in the Larson Ice Arena and will be completed in the Swiftel Center in March. The arena floor sealing was completed in December. A deep cleaning of the arena was done after the Supercross. The tile in the Lobby and Concourse are being fixed. He attended Brookings day in Pierre and Neil Fulton Chief of Staff mentioned the Swiftel Center as a good investment for the City of Brookings.  Tom told everyone that the Jason Aldean concert is not sold out. The Park & Rec department is working with the soccer and softball associations to put a concrete floor in the holding barn. Tom will be working at the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl this year.  Rod adjourned the meeting. Next meeting to be determined due to the Rodney Carrington Concert.
