Present:
Rod Schaefer, Rob Peterson; Barb Telkamp; Matthew Nelson, Al Gregg, Jeff Weldon, City of
Brookings Manager; Tom Richter, Swiftel Center Executive Director; Scott Smith, Swiftel Center Director of
Operations; Jenny Hammrich, Swiftel Center Director of Sales/Marketing, Andrea Hogie, Swiftel Center
Business Manager.
Agenda Discussions:
Rod called the meeting to order. Rob motioned to approve the minutes from June 2, 2009. Matthew
seconded. The motion passed.
Swiftel Center’s new Chef Mike Siegel introduced himself.
May and June financials were presented.
Tom presented the 2nd quarter Economic Impact.
Tom gave an update on the building expansion. The City Council met in June and gave Jeff permission
to send out RFP’s to architectural firms.
Jenny presented the board with a copy of the events for August and September 2009. Some events
include wedding receptions, Wing Festival, Johnny Holm, foam dance, and city surplus sale.
Scott reported on building upgrades. The arena lighting project is on hold. Summer maintenance and
cleaning will be done. He is working on getting quotes for sealing the arena floor. The parking lots now
have gates to prevent trucks from parking in them overnight.
Tom reported that the Staind concert went well and a patron from Watertown blogged about his positive
experience. He passed around surveys and emails that we have received from events. SDSU has asked
for $12 million for the Performing Arts Center so not sure how that will affect the expansion project.
We cleaned up the blue rink after hosting several horse shows both BISA and the City were very happy
with the way it looked. There will be a joint city/county meeting coming up soon.
Rod adjourned the meeting. Next meeting is scheduled for September 24, 2009 at 4:00pm.
