HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRMinutes_2017_02_06Parks and Recreation Advisory Board February 6, 2017 (approved) A meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was held on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at Brookings City and County Government Center with the following board members present: Brittany Kleinsasser, Sean Binker, Kristi Larsen, Jay Larsen, Steve Berseth, Thomas Thvedt, and Doug Smith. Others present included: Darren Hoff (Recreation Manager), Stacy Claussen (Recreation Manager), Al Kruse (Parks & Forestry Superintendent), Dan Brettschneider (Parks, Recreation & Forestry Director) and Christi Weidemann (Office Manager). 1. Call Meeting to Order. Kleinsasser called the meeting to order at 5:32 p.m. 2. Approval of Minutes. Approval of the December Park Board Meeting Minutes. J. Larsen made the motion to approve the meeting minutes. Motion was 2nd by Smith. All present voted yes; motion carried. 3. Additions to and Approval of Agenda. Approval of the February Park Board Agenda. K. Larsen made the motion to approve the meeting agenda. Motion was 2nd by Berseth. All present voted yes; motion carried. 4. Staff Highlights. Brettschneider reported on staff highlights report for December and January. 5. Annual Report Status Update. The 2016 Parks, Recreation & Forestry Annual Report is due February 17. The 2016 Edgebrook Golf Course Annual Report is due in March. Reports will be emailed out to the board when available. 6. Bicycle Master Plan “Draft” Review. Citizens have the opportunity to provide feedback in an online format regarding the Bicycle Master Plan. Toole Design will be editing the plan based on feedback from the recent community workshop, citizens input, the Brookings Bicycle Advisory Committee and various input from businesses, SDSU and City staff. The Bicycle Master Plan Draft is available for review on the City of Brookings website. The Bicycle Master Plan is on the City Council agenda for review and adoption on February 28. The Park & Recreation Board were given a summary of the draft bicycle master plan and discussion ensued on some items within the report. Discussion primarily revolved around the timeline to implement the plan, where funding for the implementation would come from and managing expectations as the plan moves forward. 7. Upcoming Programs and Events. A monthly “What’s Going On” flyer was sent to board members prior to the meeting for informational purposes. 8. Adjourn. Kleinsasser adjourned. Next Meeting Scheduled for Monday, March 13 at 5:30 pm at The Larson Nature Center.
