HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRMinutes_2016_12_05Parks and Recreation Advisory Board December 5, 2016 (approved) A meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was held on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. at Brookings City and County Government Center with the following board members present: Brittany Kleinsasser, Erika Saunders, Sean Binker, Kristi Larsen, Jay Larsen, and Doug Smith. Others present included: Darren Hoff (Recreation Manager), Dan Brettschneider (Parks, Recreation & Forestry Director) and Christi Weidemann (Office Manager). 1. Call Meeting to Order. Kleinsasser called the meeting to order at 5:33 p.m. 2. Approval of Minutes. Approval of the November Park Board Meeting Minutes. Binker made the motion to approve the meeting minutes. Motion was 2nd by Smith. All present voted yes; motion carried. 3. Additions to and Approval of Agenda. Approval of the December Park Board Agenda. Smith made the motion to approve the meeting agenda. Motion was 2nd by K. Larsen. All present voted yes; motion carried. 4. Staff Highlights. Brettschneider reported on staff highlights report for November. 5. Review of Recreation & EdgeBrook Fees. The 2017 Recreation & EdgeBrook Fees were sent out to the board members prior to the meeting for review. The Board and City Staff reviewed and discussed the fees. Smith made the motion to approve the 2017 Recreation & EdgeBrook Fees. Motion was 2nd by Saunders. All present voted yes; motion carried. 6. Pickleball Discussion. J. Larsen reported that a group of citizens talked to him regarding options for Pickleball for the summer. It was reported that Pickleball is a growing sport and citizens would like to see an outdoor Pickleball court established. The group received 50 signatures of people in the community who support Pickleball in Brookings. Brettschneider reported that the City would need solid advocates for Pickleball and at this time, there aren’t enough users in the community to allocate funds for a Pickelball specific court. Brettschneider will look into shared court options for future use. 7. Updates on various City Committees. Brettschneider reported that there will be a Bicycle Master Plan Community Workshop sometime in January of 2017. Date is TBD. 8. Upcoming Programs and Events. A monthly “What’s Going On” flyer was sent to board members prior to the meeting for informational purposes. 9. Adjourn. Kleinsasser adjourned. Next Meeting Scheduled for Monday, February 6th at 5:30 pm.
