HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRMinutes_2016_11_07Parks and Recreation Advisory Board November 7, 2016 (approved) A meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was held on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. at Larson Nature Center with the following board members present: Brittany Kleinsasser, Erika Saunders, Steve Berseth, Sean Binker, Kristi Larsen, Jay Larsen, Doug Smith and Thomas Thvedt. Others present included: Darren Hoff (Recreation Manager), Al Kruse (Parks & Forestry Superintendent), Dan Brettschneider (Parks, Recreation & Forestry Director) and Christi Weidemann (Office Manager). 1. Call Meeting to Order. Kleinsasser called the meeting to order at 5:31 p.m. 2. Introduction of New Park & Recreation Board Members. Thomas Thvedt is our new High School Representative he is currently enrolled at Brookings High School and an active member of the Swim Team. College Representative, Beau Bordewyk was absent. 3. Approval of Minutes. Approval of the August Park Board Meeting Minutes. Binker made the motion to approve the meeting minutes. Motion was 2nd by Berseth. All present voted yes; motion carried. 4. Additions to and Approval of Agenda. Approval of the November Park Board Agenda. Kleinsasser made the motion to approve the meeting agenda. Motion was 2nd by Jay Larsen. All present voted yes; motion carried. 5. Staff Highlights. Brettschneider reported on staff highlights report for October. 6. EdgeBrook Golf Course Update. Brettschneider reported that he emailed out the USGA/ASGCA reports out to board members. Staff met with the Clubhouse Manager and with the Golf Course Committee to discuss potential items as priorities for 2017. 7. Updates on various City Committees. Brettschneider reported that he is one of the City staff liaisons to the Public Arts Commission. The Commission will make recommendations for public art in the community and potentially in parks. This is all in the early planning stages and we will be updated as planning progresses. Kleinsasser and Berseth reported that Toole Design gave recommendations and was working on final comments from the Bicycle Advisory Committee and various other groups before compiling their master plan that will be presented in draft form sometime in early 2017. Brettschneider reported that the Prairie Cemetery is on the City Council Agenda to become City land and be maintained by the Parks Department. Brettschneider also reported that Erika Saunders and Josh & Stephanie Bauman are working on fundraising for the expansion of the current Dog Park. A GO FUND ME account is currently set up. 8. Upcoming Programs and Events. A monthly “What’s Going On” flyer was sent to board members prior to the meeting for informational purposes. 9. Adjourn. Kleinsasser adjourned. Next Meeting Scheduled for Monday, December 5th at 5:30 pm.
