Just under $13,000 will be received by our department from the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Wellmark grant based
on SDSU football and basketball scoring during the 2010-2011 season. The funds are to be used for fitness
equipment somewhere in the park system, to benefit the general public. The earlier suggestion by Ann Martin to
do something to benefit cross-country skiing interested the donors, as well as some outdoor fitness apparatus to
be installed adjacent to the bike trail, perhaps adjacent to the Nature Park. The Board concurred that we move
forward with these purchases. It is estimated the cross-country equipment will cost about $7,000, with the
balance to be spent on fitness equipment.
Mike Struck, Community Development Director, has prepared an application for DOT Trails Grant funds, which
would be used to construct the main trail system at the Nature Park, about 1.2 miles. This is an 80-20
federal/city funded grant. Motion by Kirby, seconded by Dunkle, to approve a motion of support to accompany
the grant application. Motion carried.
