of April 5, 2010
Present: Ryan Krogman, June Eng, September Kirby, Ann Martin, Kaitlin Kwasniewski
Due to lack of quorum at the March meeting, no minutes were taken. Motion was made by
Martin, seconded by Eng to approve the February minutes, with the correction that June Eng
was not present. Motion carried.
REPORTS
• City Forestry, in addition to regular tree planting, they will be planting about 220
Flowering Crabapples on South Medary Avenue as a beautification project beneath the
tall overhead power lines, and between the curb and the bike trail. The trees are being
purchased by BMU Electric Dept. as part of a cooperative effort that resulted in the
required removal of some existing tall trees and shrub buffer along the bike trail during
the construction of a new high voltage power line along South Medary. These trees,
plus 250 crabapples planted on 20th Street South last year will provide an attractive focal
point while in bloom a few years into the future.
• EdgeBrook Golf Course opened the 25th of March, probably the earliest ever and
appears to have come through the winter in good condition. Ticket sales have been
good, with many new golfers purchasing season tickets.
• Recreation brochure is at the printer and will be distributed on April 19th, with online
registration beginning April 26th.
Motion was made by Eng, seconded by Kirby that agenda be approved. Motion carried.
John Royster and Rick Salonen, representing Big Muddy Workshop and Banner Associates, led a
discussion outlining the process over the next five months in designing the Nature Park Master
Plan. The discussion was pretty much informational with discussion. The architects will be in
Brookings four days in April and then a couple days early each month with future meetings with
the Board and Ad Hoc Committee, culminating with a final Master Plan with cost estimates
presented to the City Council in August.
Mike Struck, Community Development Director, discussed with the Board some minor
modifications and additions to the Draft Park Master Plan, since the presentations and
discussion two months ago. The Board concurred with the changes, and motion was made by
Kirby, seconded by Martin to approve the Brookings Park Master Plan. Motion carried.
Meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Allyn Frerichs, Recording Secretary
