The agenda was approved as printed.
Discussion concerned an Urban Fisheries grant available through S.D. Dept. of Game,
Fish & Parks for upgrades and development of facilities to encourage fishing
opportunities within city limits if suitable bodies of water can be utilized. GF&P has
identified the gravel pits at the future nature park as one of the locations in eastern S.D.
which is a high priority for such improvements. They are anticipating possible funding
for the fiscal year 2010 (beginning July 1, 2010) in the amount of a $225,000 project.
The project requires a local 25% participation and a Resolution of Support from the City
of Brookings.
The Nature Park Ad-Hoc Committee has met and endorsed the project. $50,000 has been
included in the current 2010 city budget, currently being reviewed by city staff, which
would meet the required 25% match.
Motion was made and seconded that the Park & Recreation Board approves the concept,
and recommends that the City Council pass a Resolution of Support. Motion carried.
