HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRMinutes_2007_10_08MINUTES FOR PARK AND RECREATION BOARD MEETING for October 8, 2007 Present: Ryan Krogman, Duane Moe, Keith Rounds, June Eng, Ann Martin, Andrew Creer, Erik Dahl Motion by Rounds, seconded by Moe, that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried. REPORTS: • Construction has begun at the new Moriarty Park on 17th Avenue South. Concrete is being poured for the basketball court, a slab will be poured for the picnic shelter and additional trees will be moved in. GameTime, Inc. has announced a 50% grant program for selected communities towards playground equipment of the city’s choice. Application has been made for a large modular unit, list price of $58,000. Our cost with freight would be about $35,000. We have pretty good assurance we will receive the grant, and the purchase would come from this year’s budget. Motion by Martin, seconded by Eng, that the agenda be adopted as printed. Several people have volunteered and others contacted about serving on a citizen’s ad hoc committee to assist in developing a Master Plan for future development of the old landfill into a Nature Park. The committee would work this winter to develop a plan by spring 2008. The city has been promised an initial donation of up to $10,000 to assist in the planning process, which could likely involve consultation with specialists, architects and other professionals to gather the expertise needed to complete a Master Plan. Motion by Moe, seconded by Dahl that the following people be asked to serve on the ad-hoc committee: Julie Steen Ann Martin Diana Zweig Keith Rounds Randy Hanson Staff Kevin Duggan Ken Emo David Willis Barb Harms Howard Woodard Charles Berry (or other rep from Bookings Wildlife Federation) Gary Larson Martin Maca Ron Peterson (or other Rotary Club representative) Curt Foreman Ron Eggen Other volunteers will be welcome if they express interest. Motion carried. Meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Allyn Frerichs, Reporting Secretary
