HomeMy WebLinkAboutLBMinutes_2012_02_14BROOKINGS PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES FEBRUARY 14, 2012 MINUTES The Board of Trustees of the Brookings Public Library met Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. in the Historical Room of the Brookings Public Library. MEMBERS PRESENT: Bill Gengler, Mac Harris, Janell Hoffelt, Larry Rogers, and Gloria Thvedt OTHERS PRESENT: Elvita Landau, Cathy Enlow, and Peg Whalen Chair Mac Harris called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Gloria Thvedt moved to accept the agenda as presented. Larry Rogers seconded. Motion approved. Larry Rogers moved to approve the minutes of the January 10, 2012 meeting. Bill Gengler seconded. Motion carried. BILLS AND SALARIES – The Board reviewed the February bills. Larry Rogers moved to pay all bills and salaries. Gloria Thvedt seconded. Motion approved. FINANCIAL REPORT – Since it is the beginning months of the year, all line items are within budget. Saila Gandhi, Outreach Coordinator for the Library, explained her job duties to the Board. LIBRARIAN’S REPORT – Items of note are: • Downloadable ebook and audiobook checkout continues to increase. • Nita Gill, Adult Services Coordinator, received a travel grant from MPLA to help defray cost for the convention in March. • The annual Friends of the Library Book Sale is scheduled for March 1-4. • Courtesy notices to patrons are being well received. ANNUAL REPORT – The Board reviewed the 2011 Annual Report for the library. Janell Hoffelt move to approve the report as submitted. Gloria Thvedt seconded. Motion approved. DIGITAL PRESERVATION AGREEMENT WITH FAMILYSEARCH – Elvita reviewed the progress with FamilySearch and other Brookings groups for the digitization contract. There are several issues about property rights that are still under discussion. The contract will be reviewed by the City Attorney when ready. MARCH MEETING DATE – Tuesday, March 20th at 5:30 p.m. OCCUPY BROOKINGS – The Occupy Brookings group contacted Elvita wanting direction on how their group could emphasize the library as a valuable resource. Janell Hoffelt moved approval of Occupy Brookings idea to promote the financial value of the library to the community. Bill Gengler seconded. Motion approved.
