HomeMy WebLinkAboutLBMinutes_2009_09_15BROOKINGS PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES SEPTEMBER 15, 2009 MINUTES The Board of Trustees of the Brookings Public Library met Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. in the Historical Room of the Brookings Public Library. MEMBERS PRESENT: Amber Ohm, Larry Rogers, Gloria Thvedt, and Tami Watson. OTHERS PRESENT: Elvita Landau and Peg Whalen Chair Tami Watson called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Larry Rogers moved to accept the agenda as presented. Amber Ohm seconded. Motion approved. Gloria Thvedt moved approval of the August 11, 2009 minutes as presented. Amber Ohm seconded. Motion approved. BILLS AND SALARIES – After reviewing the bills for September Amber Ohm moved to pay all bills and salaries. Tami Watson seconded. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT – The Board reviewed the City Financial Report. The Computer Services line item will come in under budget. Elvita proposed looking into scheduling and print software for the computer lab. The Board approved. LIBRARIAN’S REPORT – Items of note are: • Circulation is still up from last year. • Children’s and Adult programming is underway for the fall. • The Mango Tree Coffee Shop held its grand opening on September 10th. • Four staff members will be attending SDLA in Aberdeen in October. • The Friends of the Library will have its first fall book sale on Oct. 2-4. BUDGET 2010 REDUCTIONS – All operational budgets have been frozen by the city for 2010. The union is still in negotiations on city salaries. On September 22 the final version of the budget will be voted upon. More information will be available at the October meeting. If further cuts are needed, the Board will discuss at that time. POLICY REVIEW: UNATTENDED CHILDREN – The Board reviewed the Library Policy for Unattended Children. There were no suggested changes. Larry Rogers moved to approve policy as presented. Gloria Thvedt seconded. Motion approved. NEXT MEETING – Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Elvita Landau, Director
