BOARD OF TRUSTEES
JULY 14, 2009 –MINUTES
The Board of Trustees of the Brookings Public Library met Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 5:30
p.m. in the Historical Room of the Brookings Public Library.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mac Harris, Amber Ohm, Larry Rogers, and Tami Watson
OTHERS PRESENT: Elvita Landau, Cathy Enlow and Peg Whalen
Chair Tami Watson called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Mac Harris moved approval
of the agenda as presented. Larry Rogers seconded. Motion approved.
Larry Rogers moved approval of the June 9, 2009 minutes as presented. Mac Harris
seconded. Motion approved.
BILLS AND SALARIES – After reviewing the bills for July, Tami Watson made a motion to
approve the bills and salaries as presented. Mac Harris seconded. Motion approved.
LIBRARIAN’S REPORT – Items of note are:
• Current registration for the children’s Summer Reading Program is over 1500. Programs
end on July 24th followed by an ice cream social on the 25th.
• The air conditioning compressor was replaced for $85,906.
• The library will participate in the SDSU Fall Festival on August 31 with a special event
scheduled at the library on Sept. 2.
• The Friends will hold a second book sale this year on Oct. 1-4.
• The carpet was cleaned over the 4th of July holiday.
OLD BUSINESS: POLICY REVIEW: Display Policy – The Board reviewed the Library Display
Policy and the form for loan agreement. Following discussion Larry Rogers moved approval.
Amber Ohm seconded. Motion approved.
COFFEE SHOP UPDATE – The Mango Tree Coffee Shop will open on July 23rd. The chairs
have arrived and the tables will be here next week. The couch is slated to be here in August.
There is signage by the front door and in the upper windows. Her one year contract for
payment is 6% of gross proceeds for the first 6 months and $250 per month for the next 6
months.
BUDGET 2010 – The 2010 budget presentation to the City Manager was early in July.
The City Manager recommended adding $10,000 to the materials budget so it would be more in
line with the national average. The rest of the budget was left as presented. The City Council
will have budget discussions in August and the final budget will be approved in September.
BOARD EDUCATION – Tabled until August meeting.
Next Meeting – Tuesday, August 11 at 5:30 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
