Call to order: by George at 12:10 pm 2. Adoption of the agenda: a. Patty requested to add MLK info to teachers by August. i. Chandradhar moved, Ann Marie 2nd , motion approved 3. Approval of April minutes: Chandradhar moved, Ann Marie 2nd , motion approved 4. Schedule next meeting: Wednesday, August 15 at noon 5. Diversity Potluck Wrap-up Report – discussion about great turn out, radio promo, promo at Habitat Earth Day event, the new venue, Aramark issues – coffee issues, Fall Event date, Anna Leisa offered to do more promo to the International students, work hard to promote, work directly with Aramark, Anna Leisa wanted to do an interactive option at each table. Everyone agreed. Agenda item next time – interactive activities – conversation card, Angela suggested more of a program including possible entertainment. Have recipe cards at event and have people submit them and then publish them in the paper. Add to supplies list: recipe cards, new paper products for event. Ann Marie – offered to give her old columns to the committee to be “recycled”. Anna Leisa and Angela will coordinate the newspaper column. They will report out at the August meeting. 6. Human Rights Award – Discussion regarding combining with annual Mayor’s Awards Event George and Steve talked to Shari about combining this event with other City Award’s Events. Looking at September 27. BHPC and Disabilities. Ann Marie was nominated, hoping that she will still be in Brookings. Possible locations were discussed: HS Auditorium, Dykhouse Center, First Lutheran. The committee agreed that it would broaden the audience for our recipient by combining with other awards. Sheri stressed that our typical program time would be significantly cut. 7. Quarterly Work Sessions – Shari will do a Doodle survey for a September meeting. 8. MLK theme will be decided at August meeting. This will enable us to get the info to teachers sooner so they can plan it into their curriculum. a. Ann Marie suggested we reach out to college students and add them to the essay contest. The award amount would be the issue. b. Add a college diversity essay contest to quarterly work session agenda. 9. Announcements/Correspondence/Calendar • Budget Report (Enclosed) • Sept 13th Volunteer Reception, Performing Arts Center, 5-7 pm (volunteer & guest invited) • Oct 7th Fall Diversity Potluck, McCrory Gardens Visitor Center, 5-7 pm • Oct 8th Native American Day • Dec 6th Mayor’s Holiday Party, McCrory Gardens Visitor Center, 5-7 pm Angela: Thanked everyone for reaching out to her when her mother passed away. 10.
