1. Call to order – by George at 12:19 pm
2. Adoption of the agenda – Lawrence requested and addition to present a GSA request
3. Approval of minutes – Lawrence, Penny, approved by voice vote
4. Next meeting – Thursday, May 17th @ 5:30 p.m. – location finalized via email. In depth meeting of
at least 2 hours. Agenda items: Potluck wrap up, Potluck email list, Compassionate listening
5. Budget Report – informational item. Patty thanked Shari for creating the spreadsheet with our
budget and expenses. It’s much easier to read and understand.
6. April 22nd Diversity Potluck Final Arrangements
o Aramark is able to do punch, water & chicken close to our previous HyVee numbers
($300). They are also donating the coffee.
o Thank you to Lawrence for volunteering to work on the press release.
o Week of April 16-20 – Patty and George volunteered to do radio appearances to
promote the event.
o Laurie created the new flyer
4 pm Setup – Patty, Penny, Lawrence, Ann Marie – be sure they’re switching out rectangles & putting
up rounds. It could be confusing because the Earth Day celebration is taking place there from 2-4 pm.
5-7 pm Event – Greeters: Patty, Penny, Lawrence, Ann Marie
7-8 pm tear down: Penny, Patty, Steve, Rebecca, Lawrence
• Advertising
o Press Release – was emailed on April 11
o Radio – Patty and George will each do a radio appearance
o Brookings Register – not this time
o SDSU Collegian – not this time
Email list – the committee agreed to work on improving the email list at their May 17
meeting
Flyers – George will distribute campus and downtown
EMAIL TO COMMITTEE – the committee all agreed to forward it to their
personal email lists
• Paper Products – Patty will pick up at City Hall on Friday
• Aramark Catering
o Received waiver from University Administration & Aramark to bring food onto SDSU
property
o NOTE: Spring 2011 - ordered chicken for 75 people (2 pieces of chicken per person) to
fill a ‘void’ in selection of food items.
o Paper Products – see above
o Quantity - 75
o Ask caterer to bring serving utensils and eating utensils along with paper products
• OTHER
o NOTE CARDS FOR PEOPLE TO WRITE RECIPES – Patty bring notecards and fresh pens

o Coffee Aramark (donated – thank you!)
7. 2013 city funding – line item in Shari’s budget is due June 15. Community Common Read may be in
our budget again.
8. Compassionate Listening Training (tabled from March) – Anna Leisa said the trainer is not available
until the fall of 2012. Campus will lead the arrangements and then incorporate the community and
BHRC would consider being a sponsor.
9. Civil Rights Conference – April 30th : Lawrence will be attending. Several people indicated an interest
but were unable to go.
10. Items to share during Volunteer Leadership Coffee with the Mayor – May 10 & 17
George will attend on the 17th. Mayor wants to start a dialogue with the City Committees. George
asked the members to email him if we have any suggestions or concerns we would like him to share
with the Mayor.
11. Lawrence announced that Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) wanted to ask BHRC to consider joining them
in a possible protest against a new vendor in the Student Union expansion – Chick Filet. They’re
going to have a Town Forum planning meeting on 4 pm on Friday to plan the Town Hall forum the
week of April 25. Jaime is working with this group on campus. She invited BHRC to be involved.
Lawrence volunteered to represent BHRC if we were formally asked to participate. George
indicated that we would like to have GSA come talk to us. Jaime will keep us posted.

14. Adjournment – Anna Leisa moved, Penny seconded. Motion carried at 1:10 pm
