City Hall, 311 Third Avenue Present: Steve Bayer, Patty Bacon, Dwivedi Chandradhar, Christine Fabian, Angela Hatton Penny Hauffe, Lawrence Novotny, Jay Vargas, and Shari Thornes Not Present: Ann Marie Bahr and George Hamer____________________________________ 1. Call to order at 12:05pm. 2. Adoption of the agenda was so moved by Dwivedi Chandradhar and seconded by Lawrence Novotny 3. Approval of the Minutes was so moved by Dwivedi Chandradhar and seconded by Patty Bacon. 4. Schedule next meeting October 21, 2010 at Noon. NEW BUSINESS 5. Fall Film Series Co-Sponsorship: Flyer was provided to committee. Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at 7:00pm at the Northern Plains Bio-Stress Room 103 located on the SDSU Campus. 6. Fall Diversity Potluck: October 10th at Old Sanctuary from 5:00-7:00pm; set-up time is 4:30pm. Need to advertise and promote via media; George Hamer will make arrangements with The Collegian and City Staff with The Register. George Hamer will take care of the coffee arrangements. It was recommended that the fried chicken order be at 75 pieces due to more people attending the event in the fall semester. Hy-Vee will provide the fried chicken and the sodas for the event. Pitchers are needed for water and serving spoons for the food. Need to find a new location for the diversity potluck event. Subcommittee has been formed to research and provide possible locations to committee for next meeting. *October Agenda Item* Old School Lutheran-conflicting viewpoints and practices/anti-gay and anti-marriage. 7. Community Common Read—committee event. Need press release; tickets available through the Diversity Office located at SDSU campus. Books should be delivered by Friday to campus and students. Each student in the school district will be given a book. Additionally, a community event regarding the Ground Zero Mosque will be held at the Northern Bio-Stress Building in room 103 on October 14 from 6:00-9:00pm. A panel discussion (Muslim does not equal Terrorism) will consist of Dr. Burns, Dr. Jensen, and Mr. Ehrlich (not sure about the spelling). The common read text was funded by First Bank and Trust and Larson Family Foundation. 8. Public Awareness Initiatives (Website and Social Networking) Subcommittee Report. Subcommittee members Patty Bacon, Angela Hatton, and Penny Hauffe. Focus on content of website. *October Agenda Item* 9. Announcements/Correspondence/Calendar September 23rd City Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, Swiftel Center October 10th Fall Diversity Potluck October 11th Native American Day October HR Awards and Goals of Quarterly Reports November 3rd Greg Mortensen presents, Three Cups of Tea December 9th Mayor’s Annual Christmas Party, Brookings Children’s Museum Current Financial Report.
