City Hall, 311 Third Avenue Present: Steve Bayer, Patty Bacon, Dwivedi Chandradhar, Ann Marie Bahr, Christine Fabian, George Hamer, Angela Hatton, Penny Hauffe, and Lawrence Novotny Not Present: Diane Nagy and Ashley Kuecker 1. Call to order: 12:00 2. Adoption of the Agenda: was so moved by Ann Marie Bahr and seconded by Penny Hauffee 3. Approval of the Minutes: None were approved, moved to June meeting 4. Schedule Next Meeting: – June 27th , 2010 at noon 4a Introduction of new member Christine Fabian Student Rep 5. Spring Potluck – Smaller group than normal, but about 60 attendees. Nice day, it appears that may have had an influence. Same mix as usual between students and community members. Next potluck is 10/10/10. Check with Sanctuary on Friday before the event, the building was locked when we showed up at 4:00. 6. Community Read –“Three Cups of Tea” - Steve and Ann Marie are on a city committee on this topic. They will coordinate with the BHRC to coordinate the next event. All school children in town will receive an age appropriate version of the current book. Author will be here Nov 3rd. Several members have already read the book. 7. EEOC Training opportunities – limited notice, but we can participate by having a local presentation. Is there any interest? June 8th evening, June 9th evening, June 10th late afternoon or the morning on 11th are possible dates. We will look at two talks, Thursday evening and Friday morning. 8. Public Awareness – What is happening? Angela, Patty, and Diane will report at June meeting on their progress. Diane will most likely be gone as her position was eliminated at SDSU. Can we use social media sites? Social networking strategy is being looked at one the city level. It is expected that there will be a Fall roll-out. The group will give a “desired list” next meeting. Who will do the screening? 9. 2011 Budget – Steve has not meet with the mayor at this point. Tabled till next month. Announcements: School board meeting Monday a topic that came up on eliminating Native American day holiday and MLK day. Instead these would be days that would be devoted to the event solely. Motion to adjourn by Chandradhar seconded by Penny at 1:00 Submitted by George Hamer, Vice Chair for the Brookings Human Rights Committee.
