Minutes of the Meeting of November 19, 2009 at 11:0 a.m.
City Hall, 311 Third Avenue
Present: Ann Marie Bahr, George Hamer, Penny Hauffe, Ashley Kuecker, Dianne Nagy
(new member), Lawrence Novotny, Jay Vargas and Shari Thornes
Not Present: Steve Bayer, Dwivedi Chandradhar, and Angela Hatton

1. Call to Order: 11:08 a.m.
2. Adoption of the Agenda was so moved by Penny Hauffe, seconded by Ann Marie
Bahr and approved by voice vote.
3. Introduction of new member: Dianne Nagy
4. Approval of the October 22nd and November 5th minutes was so moved by Ashley
Kuecker, seconded by Penny Hauffe with October minutes accepted with adoption of
additions.
5. Next meeting: December 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.
New Business:
6. Ordinance Amendment. Done, passed the city council meeting, and published.
Next for committee is to review the enabling resolutions during December and
January meetings for goal setting. **December and January Item**
7. Mayoral Proclamation of Geoffrey Grant Day on October 27th. The recipient
was very surprised by the proclamation.
8. 2009 Butler Award Recognition Event on Thursday, December 3rd: has been set
and will be held at the Old Sanctuary at 5:30 pm (set-up at 5:00 pm). Committee was
informed the cost for the facility is $150. Dr. Grant provided the city with a list of
guests he would like to invite. Penny Hauffe was volunteered to contact Dr. Grant for
additional information regarding his participation in human rights. A press release
needs to be sent out no later than November 30th. Mrs. Dorothy Butler has been
informed of the date for the event and the time will be relayed to her via a phone call.
9. Dr. Martin Luther King Day Contest: the public library has been designated as the
location to hang the posters. Committee was told they have the entire month to utilize
the space.
10. Community-wide event/one book idea: Librarian and Dean are supportive of the
idea. Goals are consistent with engaging the students and community. Steve Bayer
will get in contact with Mayor Reed to discuss. **December and January Item**

December 1st Mayor’s Christmas Party: 5-7, SDSU Performing Arts Center
December 3rd Butler Award Presentation to Geoffrey Grant

January 26 City Council Meeting-MLK Award Winners
June-Aug 2010 Native American Day (2010-2011 school year)
