Call to Order: 11:30 a.m. 2. Introduction of new members: Angela Hatton, Ryan Howlett and Lawrence Novotny. 3. Adoption of the Agenda was so moved by George Hamer, seconded by Penny Hauffe and approved by voice vote. 4. Approval of the December minutes was so moved by George Hamer, seconded by Ann Marie Bahr and approved by voice vote. 5. Schedule February meeting: February 5, 2009 at 11:00 am. 6. Judging Dr. Martin Luther King Day Contest Entries: The following are the winners of the poster contest, K-5, and the essay contest, middle and high school: Poster Contest Grades K-1 Jesus Arroyo 1st place $25.00 Eleanor Abraham 2nd place $10.00 Grades 2-3 Lauren Simon 1st place $25.00 Cain Lounsbery 2nd place $10.00 Grades 4-5 Maggie Helgeland 1st place $25.00 James Choi 2nd place $10.00 Essay Contest Middle School Jackie Meyer 1st place $100.00 Damon Bayer 2nd place $ 50.00 Sarah He 3rd place (tie) $ 25.00 Jenna Scarbrough 3rd place (tie) $ 25.00 High School Jeff Zhang 1st place $100.00 Cortlyn Hagman 2nd place $ 50.00 7. Upcoming Events Calendar and Announcements: January 12: School Board meeting regarding sexual orientation being added to the school district policy. Meeting is pending due to weather; Lawrence Novotny will contact committee members if meeting will take place that evening. January 15: install posters in bicycle shop (Trail winds) and coffee shop (Cottonwood). Set-up time is 6:00pm. Poster display will run till January 31, 2009. January 19: MLK Day January 27: City Council Meeting and presentation of awards (have as many committee members attend to show our support for MLK day.) Essay winners have the option of reading their essays. 8. Future Agenda Items: a. Update from school district on diversity b. Invite Boys & Girls Club Representative c. 2008 Annual Report (February agenda) d. Spring Forum (ask Dr. Woodard to attend to provide guidance regarding Native American Day for the future events) (February agenda) e. Human Rights Award: waiting on details from 2008 recipient Dr. Chuck Woodard regarding date and time, list of possible attendees. (February agenda) f. Spring potluck (February agenda) 9.
