Board of Directors Meeting – Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

3. Discussion on Plan for Improvements: Mike summarized the details thus far concerning the
proposed “pillow tax”. He also described some projects underway for community gateway signs,
trail improvements, park system signs, way finding on street lights, landscaping and other future
improvements, including the reconstruction of 6th Street.)
Board Discussion:
•Pillow tax summary: $2 per room with exemptions (extended stay of 28 days+) and comp rooms.
•Goals – No pre-determined goals for the tax prior to assembly of the board.
•Proposal that 2012 budget of $50,000 be used for a project to substantiate the tax to the public.
•Estimated pillow tax at 50% hotel occupancy is $200,000. Estimated tax with hotels at 90% would be around
$400,000 annually. Collections begin in 2012.
•Board identified the focus of generating visitor revenue and increase occupancy in hotel rooms.
•CVB explained an expansion plan for next level tournaments and conventions.
•Committee identified a need for a sports commission and employee dedicated for tourneys.
•Suggestions for creating competitive entertainment for visitors & weekday conferences.
•Suggestions for transportation and a need for more meeting space/hotel rooms.
•Discussion regarding capitol improvements to visitor related locations.
•Discussion regarding other community BID programs.
▪The board agreed to meet every other week for approximately one hour.
▪The next meeting is scheduled for August 30th, 9:00am (location to be set)
