Chairperson Olson called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. on March 11,, 2009 in Conference Room A
& B at the hospital. This was the second meeting of the group. Introductions were exchanged. A
request was made to include Tammy Hillestad, CNO, as part of the committee.
Search firm, Ron Waltz and his assistant were present to propose to the committee the plan for
the CEO Search. Waltz presented the position description and indicated the posting would appear
on the ACHE (American College of Healthcare Executives) website as well as AMA (American
Management Association), SDAHO (South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations) and
AJB (America’s Job Bank). The committee recommended Waltz to proceed with posting of the
position.
Waltz will screen the applications, based on the criteria he receives from the Search Committee,
Senior Management and Medical Staff. The top six to ten applications will be brought to the next
meeting of the search committee to decide if further screening is needed. Waltz will develop
questions for the telephone and in person interviews as well as the reference contact questions.
Board members will do the phone interviews. Since Brookings Health System is city owned, McCoy
asked that the BHS Application for Employment form be filled out to release the liability when
checking references. It was also suggested that the top candidates complete the Personalysis
testing. Dates of the process were discussed. Olson will draft a timeline and email it to the search
committee members. McCoy and Waltz will gather information on the wage/benefits. Waltz was
excused at 8:45 p.m.
Since all of the board members are part of the search committee, Helpser spoke to the search
committee members about the open meetings law and when there should be an executive session.
The next meeting scheduled for May 5 at 7:00 p.m. Meeting concluded at 9:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Deb Davis, Recorder
