Committee Reports. QI/Personnel Committee – Based on the high quality of scholarship applicants from the Brookings High School, the committee recommended to the Finance Committee that two $1000.00 scholarships be awarded. The director of performance improvement will be asked to the February board meeting to discuss the organization quality improvement plan. Strategic Planning Committee – Committee reviewed their strategic priorities for 2008 as well as reviewed another campus master plan option (see further detail under unfinished business). Finance Committee – Based on the QI/Personnel Committee’s request, there was unanimous approval to award a $1,000.00 scholarship to two Brookings High School students for 2008. Executive Committee – The committee discussed and agreed on a strategic plan reporting guideline for 2008. The reporting will occur on a quarterly basis with individual items of high priority discussed either under new business or CEO report. Unfinished Business. Campus Master Planning Option #7A was reviewed by the board. This option had two changes over option #7. Surgery and lab were swapped in the layout. This option allows for building/remodeling in stages. The advantages of the plan would be the ability to stay in the same location and it is phase-able. The phasing will allow the project to be completed over time as finances allow. Disadvantages are it takes more time to complete and each additional year the cost to build increases. A motion was made by Corbett to have the CEO explore options that may be available relative to the nursing home. Faltemier seconded the motion. After much discussion, a motion by Little to table the motion for one month in order for the Finance Committee to work with the CFO on modeling the finances and bring back to the Board for discussion. A five to four vote in favor of tabling the motion for one month. New Business. February Board Meeting – There was a request to move the regular scheduled February 28th Board of Trustee meeting to Tuesday, February 26th. There was no objection to this change. SDSU Request – A request came from SDSU Athletic Department to endow one scholarship. The cost would be $13,000 for 5 years. A motion by Little to approve a one time gift of $65,000 to endow one scholarship for a SDSU student going into a health related field. Johnston seconded the motion. Motion carried.
