Absent: Kurt Cogswell, Alan Davis and Dave Miller. Vice Chair Jessie Kuechenmeister called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. The next meeting of the committee was scheduled for January 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. (which was later rescheduled to January 29th). The agenda was adopted as printed. NEW BUSINESS Myths & Facts Brochure Project. In October Lindell presented the idea of the Committee creating and distributing a brochure regarding the Facts/Myths of employing people with disabilities. She suggested involving local business owners/managers that would be willing to talk to other businesses about their successes. She offered to work on the project and it also might be something Vocational Rehabilitation would be interested in partnering on. Thornes has some pre-made materials for Lindell to review and consider for the project and will put together a packet of information. The Committee asked that this item be on the January meeting agenda for further discussion. 2009 Annual Report. Kuechenmeister volunteered to work on the project and will contact others to assist her. Report deadline is February 15th. PROJECT & ISSUE UPDATES: School Expansion Plan Review. Review of the high school plans is scheduled for December 21st. The subcommittee raised a number of questions that the architect will address during the meeting. Governor’s Awards -Completion of final nominations. The deadline is February 5th. Kuechenmeister will coordinate the submission of all final nominations by the deadline. Parking Brochure Distribution. Thornes said her staff would have more time over the winter to work on this project including development of a mailing list. The Committee asked for brochures to be mailed to local and area contractors, architects, concrete contractors and area businesses. However, the mailing would not include the downtown because the property owners do not have input in the parking design. Committee members commented that it makes it difficult to ask business owners to make their parking lots and space compliant when City Hall’s back lot is not. Thornes will visit with the City Manager to see when this can get completed. Model Accessible Garden Plot. Hartenhoff-Crooks reported that Allyn Frerichs, City Park and Recreation Superintendent, is very supportive of the concept and they also discussed organic plots and children’s plots. He plans to dedicate a large space for the project. They also discussed the path of travel and compacted surface options and he suggested that concrete or asphalt may be a cheaper option. Pending Accessibility Review Invites and Concerns. None to report. 2010 National ADA Symposium – ADA Leadership Certification. This year’s ADA Symposium will be held in Denver from June 21-23, hosted by our region’s DBTAC. Thornes informed the Committee that in order to qualify for the $1000 stipend from DBTAC each person wishing to attend would need to complete basic training requirements. Training includes review of the ADA Basics online course, review of the ADA Quiz Book, viewed the “Existing Facilities Checklist” CD Rom, completed an accessibility audit, completed an accessibility audit feedback form and complete resource write-up. Bayer and Kornbaum expressed an interest in attending. Others will check their schedules. Correspondence/Announcements/Calendar February 5th – Governor’s Awards Nomination Deadline February 15, 2010 City Annual Report Deadline June 21-23, 2010 National ADA Symposium Kornbaum announced she would be absent for the next four months due to family illness.
