August 23rd, 2011
OFFICIAL MINUTES
Dr. Merritt Warren called the Board of Health meeting to order on Tuesday, August
23rd, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the meeting room at the Landfill.
Committee Members present: Paul Irwin, Pat Lyons, Trish Matson-Buus, Shari
Landmark, Robert McGrath, Roberta Wagner and Dr. Merritt Warren
.
Committee Members absent: Jesse Ronning and Al Gregg
Others present: Todd Langland and Gwen Madsen
1. Approval of Minutes: (Lyons/McGrath) Motion to approve minutes for the May 19th,
2011 meeting.
All present voted aye. MOTION CARRIED.
2. Additions to agenda: no additions
3. Approve Agenda: (Lyons/Irwin) Motion to approve agenda.
All present voted aye. MOTION CARRIED.
4. Update on Budget: The Board of Health members reviewed the 2012 Budget. The
budget process is done for the collection and landfill other then the council has to pass the
ordinance to finalize the budget for 2012. Todd will have final copies of the budget for
the October meeting.
5. Discussion on Automating Recycling Pickup: Todd Langland reviewed the
possibility of Automating the City Recycling Pickup with using a 65 gallon cart. There
are over 4,900 stops in Brookings and about 65% are currently recycling. The costs of the
carts are around $ 65.00.
6. Fall Conference: The Annual SDSWMA Conference will be held October 12th thru
October 14th in Rapid City. Todd Langland and Garry Prussman will be attending.
7. Next Meeting Date: The next Board of Health meeting will be held in October, 2011.
8. Adjourn: (Lyons/McGrath) Motion to adjourn.
